Dave’s Easter resurrection

Every one at the Red Sea College was extremely saddened on Good Friday to hear that Dave the turtle had been seen at Ras Mohammed but appeared to be dead. This was extremely sad news but having received video footage of him on Easter Sunday swimming and feeding on soft coral without a care in the world we were once again overjoyed.

Dave has been seen nearly every day since Easter, some times out feeding or on the surface taking air before diving again and some times hiding under an overhang just resting. It appears that, due to his necessary handling during treatment, Dave no longer has any fear of humans and will not react when approached by divers and this has resulted in more than one report of his "death". He had a habit, when resting, of letting his bum rise and lying on his front fins with his eyes closed giving him an almost yoga like position.

The Red Sea Diving College staff have been keeping a very close eye on Dave and he seems to be getting stronger all the time. His complete lack of fear is of concern and we would ask divers who encounter Dave to look, but please don’t touch. I would continue to ask divers to report all sightings, sending pictures where possible to

Rare Dolphin Birth

Guests on board one of the Red Sea Diving College liveaboards, the luxurious VIPONE, were recently treated to an incredibly rare sight. The lucky group witnessed the birth of a baby dolphin!

Saudi to Sharm Bridge put on hold

A long planed bridge between Egypt's Sharm El Sheikh and the Saudi mainland seems once again to have been put on hold. The bridge if it were to go ahead would mean the end of Sharm El Sheikh and the northern Red Sea as the worlds top diving destination. The environmental impact would be enormous endangering many of the northern Red Sea's endemic species.
The Times online ( http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/middle_east/article1744489.ece ) have said that "King Abdullah, the Saudi monarch, was expected to lay the foundation stone for the causeway when he visited the Northern province of Tabuk last week". Many articles have appeared recently reporting the go ahead for this 1.5 billion pound 15 mile bridge.
Thankfully Egypt's President Mubarak has come out against the planed bridge. The Egyptian news paper Al-Ahram reported that President Mubarak will not let the much talked about bridge go ahead, saying it would not be in the interest of Sharm El Sheikh.
We most all do what ever we can to support President Mubarak's decision and ensure the bridge dose not get approval at a later date. The Red Sea Diving College applaud President Mubarak's decision on this matter and ask you to do what you can to spread the word and ensure this nightmare at no time becomes a reality.
