August saw the Red Sea Diving College in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt celebrate its 15th Birthday.

The Birthday celebrations got off to a great start straight after the diving day had finished. Preparations had started much earlier when the rinse pool was drained to make way for the drinks for the evening and more importantly the ice blocks to cools the drinks in the 40 degree heat!

Staff and College guests alike we treated to an extensive BBQ and music and as the night went on the festivities carried on in style. College staff gathered in the rinse pool to serenade the gathered crowd with a unique interpretation of Happy Birthday. The lure of the water soon proved too much for the gathered divers and soon the rinse pool became the centre point of a water fight which sent one instructor in search of his scuba gear to seek refuge in the pool itself!

Red Sea Diving College was set up in 1991, when the Sharm diving industry was still in its infancy. Alain Sobol and his father are recognised as pioneering the diving industry in Sharm from 1972 onwards. By the late 80’s, Alain and his colleague Guy Haywood recognised the need for a specialist teaching facility. The ideal beach front location meant that the premises were snatched up. The site, originally a pizzeria - hence the buildings name “Sultana”, was converted to facilitate diving and the College still operates from that original location today, with Alain and Guy still overseeing every aspect of the College.

Since then the Red Sea Diving College has expanded considerably. From this Naama Bay location, Sharm has grown into one of the Middle Easts most popular holiday destinations. Hotels, shops and infrastructure have all appeared, ensuring Red Sea Diving College is one of Sharms most popular and well established Dive Centres.

Priding itself on the exceptionally high standard of teaching available from one of the Centres’ many instructors, Red Sea Diving College has an impressive reputation. It was the first in the region to be awarded the PADI National Geographic dive centre rating. The First centre in the Middle East and North Africa to be awarded the coveted PADI 5 Star CDC Centre status, the staff can teach any PADI course from Seal Team Aqua Adventures Missions for the over 8’s to Tri-Mix Instructor Training. With a pass rate of over 99%, instructor candidates have the best chance in Sharm of fulfilling their teaching dreams with Red Sea Diving College! A haven for qualified divers, daily diving is offered with quiet boats and all guides having instructor status, you can be sure you can’t be in better hands under the water!
