Sharm el Sheikh First Artificial Reef

Within the confined area in the shallows of Naama Bay, under the watchful eye of the Red Sea Diving College resident Marine Biologist Thom Hunt and Biologist James Williams, numerous amphorae pots have been moved into place to create the reef. Amphorae are found naturally on many Red Sea dive sites, a tribute to the many early ship wrecks in the area,

Guided Dives for Photographers
Our first guided dive for Photographers only has taken place. The group of 5 were the first to experience our new service and set off cameras in hand for a day of photography heaven. Expertly guided by Susie, with dedicated space for equipment on the dive deck, including a special rinse tank for cameras only, the guests took advantage of the slow paced diving, with ample time given for everyone to get the perfect shots of their choice.Next time you visit, ask about this free service and make the most of your underwater experience!

Big Stuff - First Sightings!
The first 2006 Whale Shark sighting has been confirmed! On 10th May, a beautiful 6m male was encountered by our very own Ivonne at Middle Garden. The Whale Shark, purely a plankton eater, was seen in just 5m of water, and could clearly be seen from the surface and caused a lot of excitement amoung the snorkellers in the water at the time. The lucky guest was a non-diver on their first Introductory Dive, and was rumoured to have commented before the dive that she “didn’t want to see anything too big” according to Ivonne! The photos were taken by a rather surprised Reeta, from Wide Angle.

We have had lots of Manta sightings this year, mostly on our mainland sights, like this beauty in Middle Garden.

Other sites in Ras Mohammed have also come to life, and we have been treated to many early season sightings. 2 Tiger Sharks were seen cruising past Anemone City in early June. Shark and Yolanda never fails to let us down and this year is no exception. The Red Snapper school is already hanging out on the corner of Shark, the barracuda are back in their hundreds, and yes, the controversy continues over the species of shark which patrols the barracuda each year. The old sharmers insist its either a silky or sandbar, newcomers are still betting on an oceanic black tip. Can someone please come out and settle this once and for all??

Red Sea Waterworld Taba still remains the best place to hunt out the more unusual fish life. Taba is abundant in the rare Stone Fish, as well as the even rarer Sea Moth, Frog Fish and Sea Horse, not uncommon on dives in Taba!

Chamber Presentation
All our guests will be familiar with the one-man recompression chamber that marked the edge of our confined area outside the college... Its got a new home!

Artificial Reef Project
With the one man recompression chamber now in a new home, the confined area is now missing one of its features! Fear not, work is underway to replace it with a new artificial reef. Overseen by our resident Marine Biologist, Thom, the College are preparing new materials and items to be placed in the water. The items will ensure coral growth and attract fish life. We plan to gain help from visiting guests to monitor its growth and fish numbers. News on the progress will be available on the website later in the month......
