Its that great time of year again when the water has gone soupy with plankton and the mantas have started being seen. But then comes the big question… will the Whale Sharks follow??

We would like to introduce you all to the new and improved vessel “Red Sea Waterworld 2″ – she’s back from dry dock, and a whole lot has changed.
There’s been an extensive refit with additional structural work leading to a mass of new and improved features. An extended dive deck, extra toilet, bigger and better kitting area, camera tables, covered rinse tank, increased stability, lighter sun deck, massive wet areas, flat screen TV showing footage post-dive… …the list goes on and on.
Expect a little sibling rivalry until her sister “Red Sea Waterworld 1″ gets the same treatment later this year.

No, we mean it, literally!

Many of you will have heard of the ConShelf underwater habitat experiments of the 1960′s and 70′s, during which pioneers of underwater exploration, including Jaques Cousteau himself, constructed facilities to enable people to remain underwater for extended periods of time. In fact a few of these habitats are still in use today as hotels, notably the Jules Underwater Motel in Key Largo, Florida, and there are plans for many more, the ultimate of which is Dubai’s Hydropolis resort.

The Red Sea Diving College house reef continually throws up surprise creature sightings. Only two weeks ago, a mimic octopus was spotted, so what can be that exciting that we dedicate space in our newsletter to it?
The latest rarity to take residence in the bay is a sea horse, more specifically (must point out this is not confirmed!) the Common Sea Horse (Hippocampus).

It’s a picture to die for, friends will groan with envy, but photographing Sea Horses is a tricky process, as even the slightest water movement, from divers’ fins or arms, will send them flying or if they are lucky, just into hiding. Why not use this as an opportunity to hone your underwater skills to ensure you can enjoy the Hippocampus (or any other critter) close up?

The College is pleased to announce that we have been given the PADI Green Star Award. A relatively new award, the Green Star is presented to companies who are pro-active about environmental initiatives, and out of the hundreds of dive centres here in Sharm only a couple hold this accolade.
