Hints and tips … Using an SMB

You are looking to end the dive, your buddy decides to deploy an SMB, suddenly you realize your buddy is gone, panic sets in; where has he gone? Ahhh… there he is dangling from 5 inches of string, just below the surface!

As a key piece of dive kit the SMB is an extremely useful tool when used effectively, however improper use can make it dangerous and cause rapid ascents. This month’s hints and tips look at simple things to help make your SMB deployments safer and more effective.

SS. Thistlegorm Part3 – The Sinking

The convoy anchored in the secure haven off Shadwan Island; Straits of Gubal on a bright moonlight light, blissfully unaware of its impending doom. Believing that the Royal Navy would give warning of any air raids, the ships settled down for the night under the illusion of safety
Elsewhere 2 Heinkel HE111 bombers were deployed from Crete headed toward the Red Sea, becoming increasingly low on fuel they were anxious about returning to base. As a means of conserving precious fuel the bombers prepared the bombs for release to the sea when they spotted the sheltered convoy. SS Thistlegorm was anchored away from the convoy due to her large cargo of ammunitions, her bigger size and this small distance made her the ideal target for the bombers.

5 Tips and Tricks for better diving: Winter Warmers

As a thick blanket of snow starts to cover Europe, here in Sharm, we are contemplating changing out of our flip-flops, shorts and t-shirts as winter sets in. Out on our dive boats the chill from the wind can still make you feel quite cold after a dive. For all the divers planning a winter break out here, we have some tips for keeping warm during and in-between diving.

Hyperbaric chamber: Diving and pregnancy

Hi,
My name is Katranitsa Lamprini and I love to dive! As a woman I would like to know what are the risks of diving during pregnancy and what might happen if I dive at the first 2-3 months of the pregnancy. Could something happen to the baby or are there risks for the mother? I have been asking dive instructors about this but they could not give me a definite answer. Thanks in advance!!

If you can’t beat them, join them. This is what started off the thrilling drift dive which makes the currents work for you instead of against you. There is nothing more exhilarating than to be shot off along a strong current and watch the reef pass you by as you sail along effortlessly. It’s almost the equivalent of sky diving underwater. Here are a few pointers that will help you enjoy drift diving even more and make it a little safer as well.
