She’s back – and turning heads like never before

We would like to introduce you all to the new and improved vessel “Red Sea Waterworld 2″ – she’s back from dry dock, and a whole lot has changed.
There’s been an extensive refit with additional structural work leading to a mass of new and improved features. An extended dive deck, extra toilet, bigger and better kitting area, camera tables, covered rinse tank, increased stability, lighter sun deck, massive wet areas, flat screen TV showing footage post-dive… …the list goes on and on.
Expect a little sibling rivalry until her sister “Red Sea Waterworld 1″ gets the same treatment later this year.

Dive Masters
Joanne and Tony Flack from the UK celebrated their qualifying dive for their Divemaster course in style, buzzed by a turtle on the Waterworld House Reef. Their busy schedule managed to fit the Divemaster Course, a couple of specialties, the Master Scuba Diver Rating, and (of course) a bunch of pleasure dives into a fun packed month in Taba. Thanks go to Kirby, Ashraf, Tracey, Hegazy, and Jack who all committed time and effort into giving the couple an in-depth and entertaining course.

Frisky Frogfish season is back among us
Visitors to Ras Amira at the moment are in for a treat as they can expect to be buzzed by a tiny yellow frogfish who just can’t get enough of the bubble blowers. He’s regularly been spotted hitching a lift on gear and thinks nothing of squatting down on a BCD for a couple of minutes – much to the delight of guests and dive guides alike. Staff are careful to ensure that he has a safe journey and makes it back to one of his sponges without any mishap.

LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION!
Monday 28th March 2011 started as many days do for our Red Sea Waterworld, Dive Centre Manager, Matt Kitchiner based at the Hyatt Regency in Sharm.
Walking back up the beach from Middle Garden, after the afternoons house reef dive, he was more than surprised to see that during the hour of diving the diving centre had been transformed into a movie set!

That’s Amoré (not a moray)
The Disney classic “The Little Mermaid” tells of a beautiful mermaid falling in love with a man from the surface. The tragic tale where the mermaid sells her voice to the evil witch in return for a life on land, ends happily, (as one expects from Disney) when she gets her voice returned and is able to live for ever after with her Prince Charming. We think that this curious frog fish from Taba had delusions of a terrestrial life when she made some rather amorous advances towards one of our divers. We all know divers are not allowed to touch the fish, but it seems that the fish have not been informed of this rule. Peter De Winter was extremely lucky when diving with Gary Maguire at our Red Sea Waterworld branch to have such a rare close encounter.

A new addition is joining the fleet up in Taba, see pictures of Yasmine Noran our beautiful new boat. At 27 meters long she was originally intended to be a liveaboard vessel, this means all our daily divers benefit from the extra large dive platform, spacious salon and generously proportioned upper sun deck. Her swift, twin engines are captained and crewed by a highly experienced team so you and your buddies can be taken diving in safe hands.

Whale shark the size of a semi submarine
Last Monday on the Taba Heights 10:30 semi-submarine trip, at popular dive site Muqabila, guests enjoyed a close encounter with an 8 metre whale shark and a 2 metre Grey reef shark!!!!
By chance, 2 staff were given an opportunity to take part on the trip for training purposes. Now they think it is completely normal for such animals to be roaming the beaches of Taba heights!

Stone cold killer
Stonefish (Synanceia Verrucosa) are one of the deadliest marine creatures in existence. Often brown or green in colour they blend in almost perfectly with their reef surroundings and are extremely difficult for divers and fish to spot. This ‘chance’ picture was taken at Maxwell’s dive site located at Taba Heights in Egypt. It’s very unusual to see Stonefish making any movement whatsoever unless they are about to strike.

New Hotel and dive centre at Taba Heights
Club Med will shortly be opening a new hotel at Taba Heights in Egypt. The 385 room 5 star hotel will have its soft opening mid November and be fully operational by the 4th December 2010. Club Med specializes in family all-inclusive holidays mainly for the French and Italian market. This new 70 acre site known as Sinai Bay Resort will also have an on-site diving and watersports centre run by Red Sea Waterworld. Operations Manager, Andrew Day, said that the dive centre will be open for business in November to coincide with the hotels soft opening. Matt Reston has been appointed to the role of Dive Centre Manager. Matt, who has previous experience with Club Med Resorts, will be heading up a team of between 6 and 10 full-time staff. The hotel is located in a secluded bay with its own 550-metre long sandy beach. The accompanying coral reef is ideal for snorkeling, try-dives and diver training.
